how is it possible that in the 21st century, people primarily discuss the problem of torture not from the perspective of ethics, but from the perspective of utility and effectiveness? how is it possible that, when the torture is uncovered, people do not get alarmed, but instead discuss whether it was effective or not? how is it possible that “the ends justify the means” perspective is adopted by so many people? how is it possible that the moral grounds on which the constitution of democracy is built, are thrown to ashes without a blink of an eye?
